For this project, our customer wanted a gate that would be both impressive to look at and easy to use every day. We designed and installed a stunning pair of curved top hardwood gates, fitted with discreet underground electric motors for smooth and reliable operation.
The gates were crafted from premium Iroko hardwood, known for its strength, natural beauty, and resistance to the elements. Each gate was made to fit the opening perfectly, with a gentle curve that rises from 1.4m high at the sides to 1.6m in the centre, adding elegance and presence to the entrance.
The lower section is solid, using vertical T&G boards for privacy and security. The upper section features vertical square bars with a subtle chamfer detail, giving the gates a lighter, more open feel while still looking traditional. The visible bottom rail adds a touch of classic design. The timber was treated with two coats of specialist decking oil to protect the wood and bring out the rich Iroko tones.
To create the seamless look without detracting from the elegance of the gate, we installed discreet underground motors that quietly open the gates to 90 degrees. The system slows down gently before fully opening or closing, meeting the latest safety standards.
If there’s ever a power cut, the gates can be released and moved manually with an override key - so the customer is never locked in or out.
