Not only great looking but also a practical solution

Timber automatic sliding gates

Timber automatic sliding gates not only look great but also provide a practical solution for restricted parking areas or where the driveway slopes thus preventing swing gates from opening inwards.

They can meet several other criteria including privacy and increased security whilst being less vulnerable to wind loading situations. The fact they slide into a steel channel holding the gate secure when closed offers maximum resistance to any attempted forced entry. Sliding gates only require one motor drive saving a great deal of time and expense on installation with only one motor to control and maintain over the years. This electric motor is normally an electromechanical drive with a steel rack and pinion along the bottom inside edge of the gate panel driving the gate panel open and closed.

The overall mechanics and gate construction for a sliding timber gate will offer the highest levels of standard security and durability

Construction

Our wooden sliding gates are manufactured to the highest standard by skilled craftsmen using traditional handmade construction methods.

In addition to this, AGD Systems supplies and installs the top steel guide rail and bottom rail/member to which the drive racking and rolling gear are assembled. We will carry out all the groundwork, steelwork, electrics and electronics if required to provide a reliable gate system for years of trouble free use.

Premium Range Sliding Timber Gates

✓ 70mm on main sections

✓ 20mm thick on tongue and groove boarding sections

✓ 220mm bottom timber rail for strength with the automation.

✓ All tongue and groove boards are ‘tongued’ into the top and side rails, flush with the front frame of the gate and they are unable to pull away from the gate frame.

✓ All tongue and groove boards are machined to suit each gate, meaning all the boards are of equal size within the design. Standard construction gates can have slimmer boards at the edges.

Finish Treatments

Most timber gates are factory finished in a controlled environment for the best overall coverage and Teknos finishing systems are used in the main.

If site treated we always include 2 to 3 coats of good quality finish stain such as Sikkens or Sadolin to both sides of the gate panel in a choice of standard colours of which there are many to select from. Colours available include Light Oak, Medium Oak, Dark Oak, Burma Teak, African Walnut, Jacobean Walnut, Dark Palisander and Ebony

It is also possible to apply oil such as Danish or Teak Oil, please bear in mind that oiled finishes may require regular applications if a high quality finish is to be maintained.

Special colours are available upon request – please supply the RAL or BS colour reference number/description.

Design Style

Timber gates in a sliding specification are more often a solid gate construction for privacy, security and wind protection too but we often install open gate designs too with a 5 bar gate style of a half open design with a solid lower half.

Sliding timber gates will usually have a straight top edge or arched with less gates having a swept down style as used in hinged gates more often.

There are traditional and contemporary design styles available, but if you are looking for that something special – let us know – we specialise in bespoke designs.

Timber Species

Our timber sliding gates are made from joinery grade hardwood and softwood species, sourced from sustainable certificated sources and mainly machines to suit.

Often they will be braced with steel sections which are utilised alongside the sliding mechanisms but also offer stability and strength when the gate is very wide or tall.

✓ European Oak

✓ Accoya

✓ Sapele

✓ Idigbo

✓ Iroko

✓ Cedar wood

✓ Scandinavian Redwood

We usually recommend hardwood species for timber sliding gates as these are best in providing dimensional stability, good resistance to rot and overall longevity when regularly maintained. More expensive for sure but likely to last many many years without any major maintenance required. We have timber gates fitted well over 25 years and still as good as the day they were fitted!!
